SCO UNIX and Linux 2006 Year End Install Instructions

Some UNIX and Linux systems do not accept file and path names over 8 characters in length.  If this is the case with your system then use these instructions for copying the files off the CD ROM into the top-level PBS directory.

The following section contains information about the SCO UNIX® OpenServer™ and Linux installations of the PBS Version 11.3.2 update for year-end Payroll processing.

Version 11.3 year-end pre-installation

If you are unfamiliar with mounting a CD or general Linux/UNIX commands, we recommend that you obtain help from a qualified UNIX or Linux System Administrator for installing the update.

Customization

Some programs for Version 11.3 year-end have been re-compiled. This means that a customization and possibly a third-party application that you have may no longer operate with Version 11.3 year-end applied. Before you install this update, if needed, have your customization recompiled and ready.

Installation Structure

The application of the 11.3 year-end is similar to the process of downloading and applying fixes from the PSI web site.

On the PBS 11.4 CD ROM there are 4 tar files, one for each module and one tar file with all the changes. These files are located in the /svcpacks/11.3yeunix directory. If your system does not allow the display of more than 8 characters, then the directory will display as /svcpacks/1116b3~1.3ye.

The name and a description for each file follow:

Tar file Name

 8 character file name

Description

113ye.all.tar

 113yea~1.tar

Contains all the changes for the A/P, O/E, PR, and SY modules

113ye .ap.tar

 113yea~2.tar

Contains year end changes for A/P only

113ye.oe.tar

 113yeo~1.tar

Contains changes for O/E only – If you downloaded the web site update you already have this.

113ye.pr.tar

 113yep~1.tar

Contains year end changes for PR only

113ye.sy.tar

 113yes~1.tar

Contains changes for SY only – If you downloaded the web site update you already have this.

Only the A/P and PR 11.3 updates contain changes specific to year-end.  The O/E and SY contain fixes that match what has been available from the PSI web site.

Version 11.3 Year-end Installation

  1. Verify that everyone is out of PBS Version 11.3 before you begin this process.
  2. Verify that you have a restorable backup of PBS Version 11.3.
  3. Untar the appropriate files into the top-level PBS directory.
  4. If you have Payroll and untarred the 113ye.pr.tar file (or 113ye.all.tar file), you must run the prcnv113a script to initialize the Employee Federal Auxiliary file. From the top-level PBS directory type:

prcnv113a

It will not display anything, but it will create a PRCNV113xx.LOG file matching the date and time you ran the script. You may view the results in this file.  It will initialize the Federal Auxiliary file for all companies.

IMPORTANT NOTE:  The patches on the web site may be earlier than what you just installed off the 11.4 CD ROM. Check the version numbers before you download and apply any patches. In order for the download to be relevant, the version numbers would need to be greater by module than the following:

A/P  113.02

O/E  113.01

PR  113.02

SY  113.03

  1. If needed, re-install custom programs. Contact your PBS customization and third-party application provider for instructions.

 Documentation Changes

Refer to the PBS Version 11.4 Payroll User manual Year-end chapter for descriptions of the new features and functions that apply to year-end 2006. No other features have changed for Version 11.3 year-end, so for all other documentation, refer to the user manuals on the Version 11.3 CD ROM.
