Passport Update Program Version 11.6 UNIX, Linux or Solaris Installation

The following section contains information about the SCO UNIX® OpenServer™ and Linux installations of the PBS Version 11.6 update.

You must be on Version 11.5.x before you can install Version 11.6.

Read the Version 11.6 Pre-Installation information on the previous page before you proceed with the installation.

If you are unfamiliar with general Linux/UNIX commands, we highly recommend you obtain help from a qualified UNIX or Linux System Administrator to assist in installing the update.

Installation Steps

00.  Download the appropriate tar archive file and then extract the archive into a temporary directory. These files are about 66 MB prior to being "gunzip"d.

Linux glibc 2.2 distributions - click-here

Linux glibc 2.3 distributions - click-here

SCO 5.0.6 only - click-here

SCO 5.0.7 only - click-here

SCO 6.0.0 only - click-here

Note:  You must download the correct archive for the target operating system you will install it on, otherwise the install is guaranteed to fail (:-0).  Each of the "pbs116_[O.S.ver].tar.gz" files is about 66 MB in size and expands to about 160 MB, where [O.S.ver] = glibc22, glibc23, sco506, sco507, sco600. Verify that you have at least twice this space on your system before attempting a fresh or update install.

If you want an archive that will install on any of the above operating systems and Solaris 10 on Intel when you run the correct installation program, click-here (148 MB).

0. Navigate to this temporary directory, gunzip and then un-archive PBS116.tar file (the PBS 11.6 installation programs and files) and then proceed with the following steps:

Installation program

There are installation programs for installing Version 11.6.  You must determine the installation program you need to use. There is a specific upgrade program for SCO UNIX and for each Linux GLIBC version.  The following chart will help you determine which install program that you should use.

Manufacturer

Version

Install Program

SCO OpenServer

5.06, 5.07, 6.0

./pbsinst116.sco

Red Hat Linux

7.0, 7.2

./pbsinst116.l22

Red Hat Linux

8.0, 9

./pbsinst116.l23

Note:  When the install program extension is l22 or l23 the first character on each of these is L “l” for Linux.

Version 11.6 Installation

You should have a current backup of PBS before you begin. Make sure everyone is logged out of PBS.

1.      Login as ‘root’.

2.      You must know the fully qualified path of where the PBS is located on the server.  In the temporary directory run the upgrade program.  Type the following:

for SCO UNIX

# ./pbsinst116.sco

For Linux, depending on the GLIBC version you are using, type the following:

for GLIBC 2.2

# ./pbsinst116.l22

or for GLIBC 2.3

# ./pbsinst116.l23

3.      There is a prompt to verify the start of the installation. Select Y to start.

4.      Enter the path of the PBS install you are upgrading.  The program will find the license.

5.      Enter the path again, of the PBS install you are upgrading and select Enter.  The RW.LIC license will display. The license display may indicate that you have RW32 or PBS, either is OK.

6.      You will be prompted with the following.

Re-enter a new top-level directory or press U to upgrade

To upgrade to Version 11.6 select U.

7.  Again the license will display. Select C to continue.

8.  The install will start. First the System Manager and then PowerTools will install. Other modules will install, depending on what the license indicates.

9.  Data conversion will likely occur during the installation. If you have either Accounts Payable or Payroll a window may display indicating that the conversion is taking place.  In this window a counter will count off by thousands the number of records being converted.

10.  Rebuilding menus and path files will display. When this is finished the following will display:

PBS Version 11.6 Installation complete, return to Installation Instructions

The installation is completed

11.  Please go to the Passport Software, Inc. download page for any patches for PBS Version 11.6. Install the programs by untarring them into the top-level PBS directory.  Click here for a link to this page.

12.  If needed, re-install custom programs or third party applications. Please contact your PBS customization and third-party application provider for instructions.
