PBS Manufacturing FAQ

Does the cost per module go up based on the number of users we have using the system? No, there is a single user price and a multi user price. The multi user price remains the same regardless of the number of users you have using the system. The only item that changes in price based on the number of users is the System Manager.

Is training and implementation assistance available?

Certainly! When Passport acquired the SBS 2000 manufacturing software, we also acquired manufacturing expertise. Ian Creswell was brought on to assist the Passport Partners in providing solutions to this industry. He's available for remote training, as well as on-site training and consulting when necessary.

I use the PBS or RealWorld already, which modules will be replaced?

If you're using IC, PO, OE, or JC, these will be replaced with IM, PO (the manufacturing version), CO and MJ respectively.

We use MCS-3 and were wondering if we can convert our data to the PBS Manufacturing Series?

Yes, most of your key data can be converted to the PBS Manufacturing Series. This is done using a tool written by a third party who has familiarity with both systems.

As an MCS-3 user, is this a good migration path for us?

Absolutely! While the system isn't identical to what you're using today, many of the same principles apply. In fact, we'd argue that our Master Scheduling and MRP module is one of the most flexible in the marketplace. It allows the planner more control over this function than many comparable systems. The best part is the system is actively supported and has a future! Passport is committed to becoming a leading solution provider to the smaller manufacturing companies nation wide.

Can I leave some of the PBS Distribution packages in place for historical reference? Yes, the PBS Mfg modules don't interfere with the Mfg modules. It may be advantageous to make a backup copy of your PBS Distribution in a separate folder on the server for historical reference to avoid having to continually upgrade the distribution modules. Essentially, you will freeze your data in time.

Do I have to purchase the accounting modules to run the manufacturing modules?

The AR and AP are required along with a System Manager. GL, PR, CR are optional but help to create a complete business management system.

Does this system support multiple warehouses?

Yes

If so, how about multiple locations within each warehouse?

Yes, you may have virtually unlimited locations within the warehouse.

Does this have lot and serial number control?

Yes, this is an-add on option that allows you to identify items you wish to control in this nature. You specify the control method in the item file and you determine when you wish to apply this control in the IM Control file. You have the option of requiring the lot or serial number for every transaction, or just at the point of sale.

Can I track labor on the shop floor?

Yes, both Shop Floor Control and Manufacturing Job costing offer this capability.

Can I do so using barcodes?

Yes, both modules provide the ability to print a bar coded shop floor routing document that allows you to scan on and off of shop orders. Shop Floor Control provides a program for scanning on and off of shop orders in real-time.

Can I collect the labor information from an external device such as a time clock?

Yes, we provide an import utility for importing labor information from an external source.

Can I use this system in the food or medical industries?

Yes, the lot and serial number control and its traceable history allow the use of this application in this industry. It's currently used in both.

Does this system offer an order configurator?

No, not yet.

How many levels can I have in a bill of material?

Up to 30.

How many decimal places can a component have in a bill?

Up to 4. There is also an option to define a quantity per 1000 if 4 decimal places isn't minute enough.

Can I purchase some modules now and add others later?

Yes, this may be done without a problem. For manufacturers, we never recommend purchasing less than the basic 4 (IM, PD, PO, CO). You may add on to these later.

What costing types are supported in the inventory system?

You have the option of setting up your system to cost inventory using Standard or Average cost.
